Letter from the CEO – Futuraskolan – October 9, 2026

Good day parents in the Futuraskolan community,

After a week filled with development meetings and visits to several of our campuses, I was fortunate to spend time with our young learners, whose curiosity, humour, and warmth continue to inspire all of us at Futuraskolan. Whether sharing conversations over lunch with students in our preschools or engaging in lively discussions with Student Council representatives across the organization, I am reminded daily of the tremendous capacity our young learners possess. We thank you for the trust you place in us to guide your children’s social and academic journeys. We remain deeply committed to honouring that trust.

I write to you today to update you on important developments across the organization and to celebrate the remarkable achievements of your students. Despite the national performance on the international PISA testing process, as well as the concerning performance of all the OECD countries who participated, Futuraskolan students continue to stand alone as the group who continue to perform at an exceptional level. Based on Skolverket’s recently published academic results from the 2025-2026 academic year, it is clear that Futuraskolan students continue to set the standard for excellence.

We are proud to share this year’s academic performance results, which highlight the strength and consistency of learning across our organization. Futuraskolan AB ranks at the top among major school organizations in Sweden, reflecting our shared commitment to high-quality teaching and student development.

  • Nordic International School AB – 246.8
  • AcadeMedia fria grundskolor AB – 246.2

We are also pleased to recognize the outstanding achievements of three of our schools, each of which earned national distinction for academic success:

  • Futuraskolan International Kottla – Ranked 9th in Sweden
  • Futuraskolan International Rådan – Ranked 15th in Sweden
  • Futuraskolan International Hertig Karl – Ranked 85th in Sweden

These results reflect the dedication of our staff, the engagement of our students, and the trust and partnership of our families.

As you know, our work at Futuraskolan schools and preschools is built around three developmental pillars: Academic Excellence, Digital Competence, and Global Citizenship.

Across our schools and preschools, we continue to develop our use of ICT tools to enhance and enrich learning. In our preschools coding and programming concepts are introduced through playful activities involving patterns, music, and mathematical direction. In all of our classrooms, students have access to a wide range of programs and creative platforms that allow them to demonstrate their understanding in ways that best suit their individual learning styles. With personal devices available to every student and modern digital tools integrated throughout our curriculum, we remain committed to engaging our 21st-century learners through innovative and effective instructional practices.

As AI tools continue to advance, we are discovering new opportunities to personalize instruction and create more tailored learning pathways for our students. At the same time, maintaining balance and promoting digital well-being remain essential. Through our digital literacy initiatives, we help students develop the knowledge and skills to navigate technology responsibly, building habits that support both successful learning and healthy living.

Our Global Citizenship Program (GCP) continues to grow and reach more of our community. Initially focused on community service and international outreach, the GCP has expanded its purpose to deepen understanding of the UN Sustainable Development Goals across all Futuraskolan schools and preschools, strengthen our organizational sustainability, and develop meaningful partnerships within our communities. Current initiatives include visits and activities with senior homes, food-waste reduction, children’s rights projects, participation in Håll Sverige Rent and Grön Flagg, digital exchanges within the EU, and our continued collaboration with Destination Medmänniska to support families in need.

Looking ahead to the 2026–2027 school year, we are excited to introduce further opportunities for our students to engage with global and environmental challenges. These include an expanded, Erasmus-funded Grade 9 exchange to Greece, focusing on sustainability and refugee support, as well as a Grade 6 environmental pilot project in partnership with Hands2Ocean. Through underwater clean-ups, environmental testing, and creative art installations, students will have opportunities to explore environmental issues first hand and raise awareness within their communities.

In our continued pursuit of excellence, professional development remains a central part of our commitment to quality education. This year, several core groups will participate in conferences and professional learning opportunities organized by the Nordic Network of International Schools and the International Curriculum Association.

These experiences support ongoing learning, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas, helping ensure that Futuraskolan remains at the forefront of research-based, innovative, and globally informed educational practice. This year, the following teams will engage in focused, international training:

  •         First Position Teachers – Nordic Network of International Schools Educators Conference – November 27-28, 2026 in Gdansk
  •         Math specialists – preschool and primary schools – International Curriculum Association Curriculum Implementation Conference – March 12-13, 2027 in Amsterdam
  •         Math specialists – secondary schools – International Curriculum Association Curriculum Implementation Conference – March 12-13, 2027 in Amsterdam
  •         MLY2 –  Nordic Network Leadership Conference – March 12-13, 2027 in Warsaw

Providing these opportunities allows our educators to remain connected to global best practices and continually bring new perspectives, innovative ideas, and research-based strategies into their classrooms.

Lastly, in response to growing demand, we are delighted to announce that Futuraskolan International Bergtorp will expand to welcome Grades 4 and 5 students beginning in August 2027. This important step strengthens our commitment to providing an engaging, internationally minded education from an earlier age.

Under the strong leadership of Kevin Munro and his dedicated team, our younger learners will experience the same curiosity-driven, creative, and internationally focused environment that defines Futuraskolan. Guided by the International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC) and enriched through our signature programs in Creative Arts, Global Citizenship, and Sports & Wellness, students will be encouraged to develop both academic excellence and personal growth.

As part of one of Sweden’s top-performing school organizations in Grade 9 merit points, we are committed to providing the strongest possible foundation for lifelong learning, now extending this opportunity to students beginning in Grade 4. Registration is open through Schoolsoft, and our team is happy to support families and answer any questions. We look forward to welcoming new learners and embarking on this exciting new chapter together.

There is much to look forward to, and none of it would be possible without the curiosity, perseverance, and enthusiasm your children bring to our schools each day. They continue to impress and inspire us, reinforcing our belief in the transformative power of education and its ability to shape a brighter future for all.

As we approach the autumn holidays, I wish you and your families a wonderful and relaxing break filled with time together. On behalf of myself and the entire leadership team, thank you for entrusting us with your children’s academic, social, and personal development. We are deeply committed to honouring that trust and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive within the Futuraskolan community.

Sincerely yours,

Tom Callahan
